In this semi-autobiographical film, writer-director Marco Carmel explores the complexities of the father-son relationship. The father, Felix, resettles his Tunisian-Jewish family in Paris. The eldest of his two sons, eleven year old Michael, at first regards his father as the perfect role model of manhood. But Felix is a con man progressing from petty scams to a bank robbery. Carmel, whose work is inspired by the art of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, focuses on Michael's search for a positive paternal image. The story depicts his psychological passage from a father’s idolatry to loss, to the acceptance of reality and the actuality of truth.
A French-Israeli co-production, the dramatic impact of the film is enhanced by the performance of its stars. FATHER'S FOOTSTEPS was nominated for 5 Israeli Ophir Academy Awards, including Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress.
