HALISA

by Cinemensch: Andrew Levy

HALISA, nominated for 5 Israeli Academy Awards, puts us front and center with Sarah, a 41-year-old nurse who works with underprivileged mothers and their infants at a Children’s Health Center in Israel. Yearning to have a child of her own, the divorced Sarah has been unsuccessfully going through fertility treatments. Then she meets Anya – a desperate 18-year-old who needs to leave the country with her derelict boyfriend – and a moral and ethical dilemma ensues.

If you’re looking for a story that is exceptional, warm and touching, this is the film to see. Have tissues on hand.
