We’ve had some amazing films at this years Greater Phoenix Jewish Film Festival.
With a little something for everyone, that slate of films have really made us cry, laugh, feel so many emotions and really treasure this great time we’re having. I wanted to share some of the films that people are really talking about and sharing some great insight on.
FOUR WINTERS – Over 25,000 Jews escaped to the forests of Poland, Belarus, the Ukraine and Lithuania and fought the Nazis in every way they could. They blew up trains and bridges and staged armed attacks and acts of sabotage against the enemy. This documentary was described from one viewer as an “outstanding documentary tells the story of brave Jewish partisans who resisted the Nazis and lived to tell the tale. Four Winters is a must see” while another said “Don’t miss this BRILLIANT documentary. A story that has always needed to be told, and the necessity is greater now than ever.”
Four Winters can be seen at the Peoria Harkins Arrowhead @ 3PM on March 2nd.
Midas (Man) is the story of Brian Epstein, who was the mastermind behind the discovery and success of The Beatles. I guess he heard something in those young boys that turned into solid GOLD.
Epstein, a young Jewish record store owner and music entrepreneur, catapulted the Beatles – as well as other famous pop artists – to international success. The cast includes a fabulous performance by Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Epstein and supporting performances by Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Jay Leno and Eddie Izzard. We’ve had some great turn out for this amazing film including some fantastic press from around the valley: https://youtu.be/wv4lLYnd6oU
Don’t miss this one at Scottsdale Harkins Shea @ 7PM on March 2nd.
RUNNING ON SAND – An illegal Eritrean refugee in Israel fleeing deportation at the airport is mistaken for a famous Nigerian soccer player. A struggling Israeli soccer team has been waiting for the player to arrive at the airport to help them to victory – and fans mistake the refugee for the soccer star. Who doesn’t struggle with this problem from time to time?
A great quote from a viewer of this film really stuck with me. “The film tugged at every heartstring, and the audience smiled, laughed, and cheered with delight.”
After reading this, I know what I’m doing this weekend.
Running On Sand is playing at Harkins Chandler Fashion @ 3PM on March 2nd
