  • Martha Liebermann, the 88-year-old widow of famous modern painter Max Liebermann, is trapped in her beloved Berlin in 1943. She refuses to sell her husband’s paintings to finance her escape. In a chilling race against time, this dignified older Jewish woman can either go abroad or wait to be deported. But who can she trust? This award-winning drama is based on a true story and includes an incredible lead performance.

A first-hand account of the rescue of Danish Jews from the Nazis.

The film will be followed by a speaker. Dr. Volker Benkert is an Assistant Professor at the ASU School of Historical Philosophical and Religious Studies. In addition, he is an Affiliate Faculty member at the Center for Jewish Studies. He earned a doctorate from the University of Potsdam. His research focuses on the impact of sudden regime change on biographies in 20th Century Germany and Europe and is a world-renowned mentor, author and speaker.
