Overview

  • This fresh, original drama tells the story of Mika, a “20 something” modern Israeli who accompanies her grandmother on a trip to Poland in an attempt to reclaim her grandmother’s family home that was confiscated during the war. The feisty grandmother and naturalistic, independent Mika each carry secrets. Mika has met an endearing Polish tour guide, and her grandma reconnects with a man connected to her hidden past. Based on an award-winning graphic novel by Rutu Modan.

Anna Cichopek-Gajraj, a native of Kraków, Poland  is affiliated with ASU’s Center for Jewish Studies and the Melikian Center for Russian, Eurasian, and East European Studies. Her research focuses on Polish-Jewish relations, antisemitism, and ethnic violence in Poland and in the Polish-Jewish diaspora after the Holocaust. She is a recipient of the 2016 Shofar Zachor Award from the Phoenix Holocaust Association for “exhibiting and carrying the work of Holocaust education, Holocaust remembrance, and community interaction.”
